Reader Response to Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko.A cute story. this society has a huge fascination with the mob. look at the godfather movies.... some of my favorite movies of all time. This was a really fast read... i read it in about 4 hours whilst down in IL over easter break.
i think the most impressive part of the story is just it's pure honesty. The family life isn't perfect, but the parents really go to the wall for their kids.... and not in a hoakey way like in hoot, either. Choldenko expresses a strong knit family bond without actually saying that her characters are best friends with one another.
i love how moose interacts with his sister.... natalie really reminded me of curious incident and rain man.... it just blows my mind how people can deal with that. i don't know if i could.... but i'm sure that it'd be different if i had a child or sibling with a cognitive disability.
