Respite

Hullo all!

In lieu of my typical Word Nerd Wednesday post, I've decided to offer an explanation.

A while back, I was perusing the bargain table, and I found all of these precious little gems:

Not only are they absolutely adorable, they're classics that I haven't read yet.  And, right now, I am FED TO THE TEETH with all the garbage that I've had to slog through.  My last post was the final straw.  I haven't really turned backflips over any of the books since Counting By 7s, and that was almost 2 months ago!  Belly Up and Absolutely Truly were supposed to be up next, but the idea of trying to wade through them just disgusts me at this point, and I don't even know what's in them!  I'm horrified by my natural inclination toward most of the books that I want to read (really for work research).  I'm afraid that they're going to be such a boring chore.  My curiosity is no longer piqued by the hundreds of titles and covers that we feature.  I feel like a criminal for saying that about books!

So, I've decided.  I'm delving into these classics.  I know we call them classics, but I have no idea why.  I also want to find out what kind of literature kids were reading 100 years ago, too.

After that, I plan to revisit some of my childhood favorites and explicate my own reasons why they're my favorites, and hold them up to the Word Nerd Seal of Approval.  Having re-read Sideways Stories from Wayside School, I'm a bit anxious.  I'll forever stand by Harriet the Spy, and I found the entire original Little House series at a used bookshop for $10!  Dude! And it's even the same obnoxious blue box set that I had as a kid!  We'll see how it all measures up.

Also, for my Lenten reading, I'm tackling this amazing powerhouse:

It's my widdle baby Canon Law!  Latin on one side, English on the other!  Woot  It's got about 1700 paragraphs in it (not counting sub-paragraphs), which boils down to about 44 paragraphs per day.  While I'd definitely say that the Catechism of the Catholic Church is the heart of the law, this little guy right here is the letter of the law.  It's important to know both.  The more I know about Truth, the more I love Him.

Welp, that's about it for now.  I think I might also take a break from posting weekly.  Not sure.  Who knows?  Maybe these books will be the literary upper I need to withstand the rest of the crap out there.  Or perhaps I'll just research the titles a bit better before diving in next time.  I want to keep it on the up.  I'm sick of reading depressing, mysterious, existential crap and wondering why the hell it is being fed to kids.

Anyways.  That's about it!
