Reader Response to The Tent: a parable in one sitting by Gary Paulsen
The back cover reads:
"They steal a Bible from a cheap motel, find an old army tent, and start raking in the money hand over fist. Steven's father is tired of being poor, so he decides to be a preacher. At first Steven is embarrassed by the way his father lies so easily about God. But he learns to love the buckets of money and learns to play his part in the hustle. They set up shop on the outskirts of dusty Texas towns and start to work their way through the South, saving souls. Along the way, they find out whether they can save their own."
My response:
insanely alacritous read. i read it in about an hour... if that. it's only 85 pages.... the book begins by explaining a very short and tongue-in-cheek explanation about Jesus. each "chapter" begins with a bible verse.... it's pretty cool... you kind of get into the characters' heads... but it is rather short. a good story. a great parable... everything harkens back to Christ and Christianity.... i love it.
i wouldn't necessarily give it a word nerd seal of approval... but it is a great read. go read it.
I've read Hatchet, The River, The Haymeadow, Dogsong, The Rifle, and The Tent... and i've only disliked The River. he's an excellent author with a great style. Check out this webpage.
